Anti Aging Cream for Men: Really?
Are you a man? Are you embarrassed by the fact that you would like to look better, or maintain your youthful appearance? Did you ever wonder is there really a difference between skin care products for men and those for women? Will an anti aging cream for men really make you look more attractive?
Skin care products can restore some youth to the face, but there isn’t much difference between products marketed to men or those marketed to women despite the fact that there are differences between a man’s skin and woman’s skin.
Skin: Men Versus Women
Skin of men is thicker than women’s and there are obvious hormonal differences that contribute to differences between the skin of the two sexes. Men’s skin is less likely to suffer from age spots or other pigmentation changes. Because of increased testosterone and DHEA and increased number of sebaceous glands the skin of men is more oily than a women’s. This along with larger pores can lead to development of blackheads and whiteheads that are more common in men. Facial shaving can make a man’s skin hard and coarse as well.
Anti Aging Cream
An anti aging cream can improve the appearance of men and women by moisturizing the skin and reducing fine wrinkles. But if one were to look at the primary ingredients in those products marketed to women and those marketed to men there typically is not much difference. Most products for both sexes contain antioxidants, moisturizers, exfoliates, and retinol derivatives to reduce wrinkles.
Skin Tips for Men
Though a man’s skin is thicker than a woman’s the skin of the face is thinner than other parts of the body and is susceptible to dehydration. Bar soaps can be harsh and dry out the facial skin in males – so best to avoid them and consider a mild facial cleanser.
Shaving everyday or nearly everyday has some benefits and can also create some problems. Shaving is a great exfoliator removing dead skin leading to softer smoother skin. Yet, it can irritate the skin and lead to ingrown hairs. Men should apply exfoliators to those areas not shaved to remove dead skin and unplug pores minimizing the development of blackheads and whiteheads. Emollient-based shaving creams can soften the hair and follicle creating less irritation.
Avoid after shaves containing SD or denatured alcohol. These products increase the build up of dead skin and can increase the possibility of ingrown hairs. A better option is to use an oil free moisturizer after shaving.
Probably the biggest difference between an anti aging cream marketed to one sex or the other is the price. Women products are usually more expensive. However, if you’re comfortable in your own skin and with your masculinity and you happen to see a women’s product less expensive than the men’s counterpart – “go for it”. Didn’t Christie Brinkley say something similar to Chevy Chase in the National Lampoon’s Vacation?
