Anti Aging Facial Treatment Options
Never before have there been as many effective anti aging facial treatments. And, the good news is excellent results can be obtained without undergoing the knife.
Anti Wrinkle Cosmeceuticals
The simplest intervention to look younger and vibrant is use to take advantage of the newer anti wrinkle cosmeceuticals that contain a variety of skin healthy nutrients. Many of these products contain a host of antioxidants that prevent and limit skin damage from toxins in our food supply and environment. These nutrients include vitamins C and E, alpha lipoic acid, coenzyme Q10, and green tea and grape seed extracts.
DMAE or dimethylaminoethanol is an analog of choline and choline is one of the B vitamins. DMAE has been shown to reduce forehead lines and fine wrinkles around the eyes. Retinol has longed been used in skin care products and improves skin damage from the sun and stimulates the production of collagen.
Dermal Fillers and Botox
Dermal fillers and Botox injections are used to treat wrinkles. There are 2 types of dermal fillers; human-based collagen fillers and hyaluronic acid (HA) based fillers. Collagen is a structural protein and can reduce the appearance of wrinkles giving good results for 3 months and longer. HA injections work by drawing in water into the skin and holding onto it giving the skin volume. HA also helps the binding of collagen and elastin (structural protein). Result from HA injections typically last 3 months.
Botox is not filler, but reduces wrinkles by relaxing the muscles underneath the skin as muscle contractions contribute to wrinkling. Botox injections last 3 months.
Laser resurfacing reduces fine facial wrinkles and skin damage from the sun. Lasers can also treat minor skin imperfections like age spots, spider veins, large pores, and acne and surgical scars. Full recovery from laser treatment can take up to a month, though many are back to work within a week.
Radio Frequency Therapy
Tired of seeing that sagging skin? Radio frequency generates heat from an electric current which tightens the skin reducing sagging and wrinkling. Some collagen production probably also occurs.
Photodynamic therapy uses light and light-activated medication to promote repair and regeneration of collagen in the dermis improving skin appearance. Photodynamic therapy is effective for rosacea, acne, vitiligo, and scars. It is relatively pain free.
Stem Cell Treatments
Cosmetic surgeons have transplanted fat during a variety of procedures for some time now. Over time it’s been noticed that the quality of skin improved with improvements in skin thickness, wrinkles, and sun damage.
These added benefits are now known to be secondary to stem cells in fat that stimulate growth of structural proteins like collagen and elastin, and also stimulate blood vessel growth improving the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the skin. These stem cells can now be extracted and used as fillers in cosmetic surgery. See “Stems Cells and Anti Ageing: Looking and Feeling Your Best”.
Anti aging facial treatmens are plenty and there’s sure to be one that works for you.
